Research in Motion's annual BlackBerry Developer Conference is underway and the scoop of the day is RIM's new tabletannouncement. After much speculation, the tablet details are finally out. Lo and Behold, Welcome the new tablet, PlayBook. Uhh. Ok, we will play along and let's see if the specs of the tablet are any better than its slightly disappointing name. The new tab will run on BlackBerry Tablet OS, which is the OS created by the firm's recent acquisition QNX. The tablet will fully support HTML5 as well as Flash content. It will also offer OpenGL and POSIX.
This 7 inch tablet runs on Cortex A9-based, dual-core 1GHz processor and has been touted by the company as the fastest tablet around. It has 1 GB of RAM with usual 1024×600 capacitive multitouch display. Although, no mention has been made about native storage, but according to rumors, the tab will be available in 16GB and 32GB versions. Oh yes, and it has a 5MP camera with yet another 3MP front-facing camera. Take that, iPad. The entire unit is merely 0.4 inches thick with 400g weight. So far, the specs sound good, but unfortunately, RIM did not make any mention of its price. The launch date has also not been divulged, except for the hint that the tablet will available in "early 2011".

The new BlackBerry tablet looks very nice. The OS looks very “Apple”, but with that Flash support, I’m sure it holds the edge ;) Actually surprised all of these tablets are being developed, who’d have thought there was a market for them!
