Facebook may be Working on a Phone or Two: More Evidences Surface

Not a long time back, we had reported that Facebook might be working on its own phone handset, but Facebook was quick tocrush the rumors. However, now there are evidences which corroborate the early rumors. Bloomberg has reported that Facebook is working closely with handset manufacturer INQ, and it is planning to launch not one, but two handsets.

The phones are expected to run on Android OS and will be heavily tilted towards Facebook-oriented features. The handsets will sport QWERTY style keyboard with Touch screen. However, the phone is likely to test the waters in European market before hitting the shelves in the US. Europe is expected to get its taste of Facebook flavored phone during the H1 of 2011, whereas US will have to wait till 2H.

Although the phone will be social media oriented, it is not known whether Facebook will co-brand the phone or not. Anyhow, the social media giant is looking to rope in AT&T as its carrier partner. The industry does not seem to be too gung-ho about the idea, given the recent mega-flop experience with Microsoft Kin. But then, Facebook has always surprised us. What is your say about Facebook Phone?
