There's hundreds of weather apps in the Android market place which means you can have a nice little weather widget on your home screen so the sun can shine on your phone when it shines outside. Apart from a bit of pre-picnic forecasting the weather apps all seem a little useless and repetitive. But here's one that's completely different.
If for some reason you want to pull an Al Gore and analyse the pollution in your sky then this app from the University of Southern California’s Viterbi School of Engineering, will serve you well.
The app pops a little grid on your screen which you use to take a photo of the sky
and then it’s sent automatically along with the GPS, compass, accelerometer and clock data to a central computer for analyzing.
Once processed, a message is relayed back to the user informing them of the air pollution, and the information is also stored on the server for future research.
So get it downloaded and get snapping, if enough people use the app the research could prove valuable in the fight against global warming.
