Google have (in their own words), "just released a new version of the Gmail app in Android Market, so Gmail updates aren't tied to Android version releases anymore. Now you can get new Gmail stuff faster without having to wait for system updates."
The new version comes with a host of new features and improvements, but before I go into them; anyone with 2.2 keep reading, if you don't, then run along crying because this won't work on anything lower.
But if you are running android 2.2 or if you're just interested anyway, then for starters, Google have improved message replies, access to quoted text, and more.
It states on the Gmail blog that, "As you scroll through a conversation, your most important message actions will now stick to the top of the screen, one click away, no matter how long the email is."
And though it is in its infant stages, the new desktop Gmail feature Priority Inbox has also made its way onto the latest Android Gmail app. If you've enabled Priority Inbox via the desktop version of Gmail, you'll see an "Important" label that shows all messages flagged as important and you can even add a shortcut to "Important" to your smartphone's home screen.
Note: there's already a problem with the update and Google are working on it as we speak. "There is a known issue where the headers don’t stick properly on some HTC phones like the EVO 4G and Droid Incredible. We are working to address this." They say
So hit the market or scan the QR code below if you’ve got an Android handset that runs 2.2 and isn’t a HTC.

I installed it on my rooted 4G and now the replay bar does not stick to the top. I unistalled it and went back to the verison that comes with FROYO (2.2) and now its back to normal.
Any one else experience this?
