A Danish newspaper has reported that Apple has bought Danish-Swedish firm Polar Rose. Polar Rose has garnered much attention for its face-recognition software. Currently, the company is employing its software for providing automatic photo tagging in social networking services and apps. Since, Polar Rose neither confirmed nor denied the rumor, we are going to assume that the Company is now in Apple camp. The deal is expected to be worth in the vicinity of $22 million.
Now, let's see how this new acquisition fits into Apple's game plan. Polar Rose is the company behind Recognizr technology, which is an Augmented Reality App. This app has the capability to recognize people and then can overlay their social network links. Apart from that, Apple may choose to use the face recognition capabilities for adding an additional layer of security. If Polar Rose really is in Steve Jobs' hand then we can rest assured that AR segment is now going to see much more action.
