While having fun with iOS 4.2 Beta, some iPhone developers have solved the mystery of an iProd 2. iProd 2 was earlier thought to be the key for unannounced iPad, however, now it has been proved that the code is for Apple TV. This goes to show that Apple TV runs iOS and hence is very much jail-breakable. Now, do not get too excited, given the fact that Apple Tv has very little onboard storage, it is still debatable whether much can be achieved even if the device is jail-broken. However, let's not under-estimate the power of the hacker community.

The main thing, hackers might try to achieve by jailbreaking Apple TV, is to have the capability of running various Apps on the device. Lack of storage is definitely going to be a hindrance. It is also not known how Apple TV is going to interact with apps. Apple TV is scheduled to start shipping in late September. The device is going to sport a price tag of $99. So, now let's wait to see how this device performs. Even more interesting would be to see the hacker community shredding the device and making it do the things Apple did not intend it to.

So what does a jailbroken Apple tv enable?

Applications? How would you interact with them?
Change Carriers – does this matter with apple tv?

  • Could you convert a rented movie to other devices not apple tv not apple supported as many youtube users do with the help of ifunia youtube video converter? Would you purchase a video converter or dvd ripper with the 99-Cent TV Rental Service?

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
