Yesterday Microsoft launched Internet Explorer 9, hoping to take on the strong competition from Firefox and Chrome, but it seems they intend to leave Windows XP in the dust. Microsoft are instead focusing their newest IE to run with their latest OS Windows 7.
The newest IE from Microsoft uses hardware acceleration tools, which means that it relies on the GPU to run faster. However, this feature will not be used in IE8, meaning Windows XP can't get the full capabilities of Microsofts latest boost to browsing speed. Senior Director of Internet Explorer Business and Marketing, Ryan Gavin also said Microsoft will not back port IE9 to PCs running Windows XP.
It seems Microsoft really does want to just throw Windows XP away, saying what we all need now is to move on and accept Windows 7 and IE9. Vista still seems safe for now. What do you think about Microsoft neglecting XP? Is it about time to leave it or does the old OS still deserve a little more love? Leave your thoughts below.

XP is nearly 10 years old. Enough said!
I’m sorry but I think that is a very poor decision on the part of Mircosoft.
For organisations such as mine which are still using XP, and will do for some considerable time, it just rules out using IE 9 and therefore IE in general as Chrome and other browsers take preference. I think its a strategically poor decision, especially in light of the fact that all of its major competitors are compatable with XP….
Related post reports IE usage down 11.4%. Does Microsoft really want to erode that further by not back porting IE9 to XP?
Neglecting?!?! XP has enjoyed a longer lifespan than any OS has before or probably will for some time to come. There comes a point when technology that’s a decade old must move on. Perhaps Microsoft shot themselves in the foot with Vista but 7 is the real deal. Time to move on.
I have Windows 7 and think IE9 Beta is very good. I also have Windows XP on another computer and had hoped to use IE9 on that computer too. I guess not :(
I hopefully Mozilla will still support Windows XP with their Firefox. :)
I really like your website because you gave me about information and resource I’ve never seen that before. I’ l stay tuned on your web site.
Nice analogy. Keep in mind that failing at keeping people engaged is what made Friendster and MySpace jump the shark. Enough said. It’s time for a glass of wine and my favorite sitcom.
Good article, but that won’t really to work with my router ip, any helpful hints?
A very bad move on the part of Microsoft – Microsoft made some very critical errors in their Operating systems developement – Vista was a disaster – They realised that people preferred the full access to files the same as they got in XP – Says a lot when they had to develope an Operating System around XP as they did in Windows 7 – but to try to force people over to Windows 7 by pulling the plug on XP develpoment is not going to win them any Brownie points.
People STILL want to have a choice and not be lead by the nose.
XP is still the preference for me – Windows 7 looks good but thats it – We have already been bombarded with Spam pop-ups we don’t need more which is what you get with Windows 7 – I still prefer the chase when it comes to web browsing not being lead squealng to all the associated pages with Windows 7 features. – If that is the only real difference converting to Internet Explorer 9 then i am quite happy to stick with Internet Explorer 8 thank you very much.
