The Pet Rock gets a 21st century update.

For those of us retro enough to remember Pet Rocks (sold for a few quid, the simplest pet in the world – no walkies, no feeding, no petting even required. The inventor, Gary Dahl, apparently made his fortune on the official ones. Everyone had one. And as the owners have grown up, so has the Pet Rock, into a solar powered desk pet with attitude!

The new Pet Rock will come in four different colours, and the build in solar pannels mean that you pet can now interact back with you, rather than just helpfully doubling as a paper weight. Well, I say interact – what I mean is move about of it’s own accord once it’s got enough sun light. Apparently all four move in different ways so that you can collect them all.

Watch the video to see them all ‘rock’ out!

No release date (the website of inventors Desk Pets indicates that they’re still patent pending) but we’ll keep you  up to date.

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
