Asymco, an industry analysis advisory firm, has come up with some interesting findings. The advisory company collected data from iTunes and upon analyzing it found that the app download curve is much steeper than the one for music download. Although, music download is seeing constant increase in the number of downloads, but app download is catching up real fast. After its debut about five years back, iTunes currently has traffic of 12 billion music downloads per month. However, App download has already touched the figure of 6 billion downloads a month in just two years of its launch.
Based on the rate of growth, app downloads are likely to overtake music downloads by the end of this year. However, this incongruence may be due to the fact that apps are generally lower priced than the albums. And also unlike music, Apps are vital for the getting the best out of your iOS device. This made me look into my consumption pattern and it did not deviate from mass pattern. My current tally is Grand total of Zero music downloads vs. uncountable apps. Although it is an extreme, but I am sure most of us find it more comfortable and useful to download apps than music. What says you and your download pattern?
