Motorola has released a terse announcement on its support forum stating that "There is currently no upgrade path from that load(leaked version) to the official 2.2 load that will be released by early September". Motorola has clearly decided not to follow HTC model while updating the OS on its phones. HTC had pursued a much lenient strategy. The company had come forward to create fixes for the users who were having problem in upgrading to the official version of 2.2 on account of leaked version already loaded on their phones.
The company has also said that the only way out for the Android 2.2 toting rebels is to restore their phones back to 2.1 and then to wait for the official 2.2 to arrive. Motorola seems to be hellbent on dealing a tough hand to hacking community. The company had earlier issued a Cease & Desist letter to a website which had hosted a leak version of Froyo for Motorola DROID X. Since the website in question promptly took down the update, seems like this is the same fate which folks with leaked Froyo installed on their phones will meet.
So, are you now clamoring for getting your phone back to good old Android 2.1? Are you secretly or not-so-secretly resenting Motorola for its tough stance? Either way, let's look at the glass as half-empty and just be happy that the update is just round the corner since the toughie statement has also promised "early September" release.
