With all eyes on the Nintendo 3Ds plus the possibility of Wii 2 as early as next year, Nintendo want to shake out the last dregs of money out of the soon to be old news DS. They have announced that the price of both the Nintendo DSi and the DSi XL will be reduced over in the US beginning September 12.
The DSi will drop to $149.99 and the XL version will drop to $169.99. Prices have already been dropped over here the UK and in Japan and Australia.
“We know shoppers want to get the maximum value out of every dollar they spend. Our new Nintendo DSi prices make it easier than ever for consumers to access the tremendous variety of games, applications and social tools on the Nintendo DSi and Nintendo DSi XL systems.” said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America‘s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing.
Through the end of July, total Nintendo DS family hardware sales are more than 42.3 million in the United States alone so there is still a lot life in the old dog yet. Plus big upcoming software releases such as Professor Layton and the Unwound Future™ (Sept. 12), Pokémon™ Ranger: Guardian Signs (Oct. 4), Art Academy™ (Oct. 25), Mario vs. Donkey Kong are sure to boost sales and ensure people that Nintendo can still attract the latest portable games over to their DS systems.
If you haven't already got a DS stuffed under your sofa will the recent drops in price encourage you to buy one? Or are you contemplating an upgrade from the standard DS or just waiting for the release of the 3Ds
