Ok, so I know the majority of the sites readers are guys (women out there – speak up!) but I couldn’t resist sharing this cute little gadget, aimed at those of us who are a bit lax when it comes to watering the house plants. And this one is better than most purely ‘cos you get told what to do by a squirrel!
Using a simple bob function (kinda like a buoy at sea), the little squirrel on the front of the log indicates when the plant needs water. You top it up through the little spout at the side, until the happy little rodent pops up (and I think he is saying ‘Stop now or you’ll drown me!’). This fills an internal reservoir, and an ingenious ‘root rope’ (ie- porous piece of string) gets saturated. This rope it designed to be mixed in with the soil when potting, and seeps out the required level of water to keep the soil moist and your plant alive. And to let you know you need to add more water, the little squirrel will gradually disappear, having bobbed down to hide (here I think he is simply saying ‘Oh no…’).

Makes plant keeping a doddle, and it’ll squeel on your brother if he hasn’t been taking care of the botany when you go on holiday too…
Available for £24.95 from Cutebitz, and comes in white or brown (but brown is the only way to go cos then it’ll look like a mini tree!).
