Sony are set to revolutionise the way smartphones are wired. The company is working on a new technology that will allow power and data transmissions through a single cable. Currently the method of connection (up to an LCD screen for example) is to use a series of cables in a ribbon format. Check out the diagram below for a visual representation.
This technology enables the internal wiring of a mobile device to be streamlined through a single copper wire which means the video, audio, control signals and power transmission can all travel through a single cable meaning improved design flexibility, reliability and durability for mobile devices with movable mechanisms. Sony’s unique encoding technology with DC balance enables both DC power supply and high speed data to be transmitted within a limited frequency bandwidth.
Sony created the technology as smartphones started getting more advanced. The technology Saves space with cables and reduces the chance of breakages.
There are no set dates yet but Sony want to get this technology out as soon as possible.
So keep your eyes peeled.
