Apparently it's not just iPods that have shown murderous tendencies. Nokia handsets are now said to be combusting and exploding across the Eastern part of the globe. We've all heard the reports of some school kid or other suing Apple after their ipod touch caught alight and left them with severe burns; but the Nokia 1209 has gone a step further and according to reports killed a farmer in India.
The victim, 23-year-old Gopal Gujjar, suffered serious injuries to his right ear, neck and shoulders. Police believe he was killed by the device after discovering pieces of the handset scattered nearby.
Deaths via 'exploding mobile phones' have been reported in countries such as China, and Nepal.
In January this year, a 27-year-old housewife in Kadapa was killed while she was talking to her husband using a Chinese-made mobile and charging it at the same time.
The Times of India said this latest incident was probably the first incident in the country where a mobile has exploded whilst it was not on charge.
Nokia are yet to reply.
Now if this was April 1st we could all have a good laugh but unless the police have got it wrong or the Indian Times has resorted to hoaxes, then out there somewhere are phones that could blow us up. Scary.
