The T-Mobile G1 handset is the first phone featuring Google’s Android software and will be available in the UK in time for the Christmas rush. Android allows developers to write managed code in a Java-like language that makes it open-source for unique and better applications.
Google first announced its plans for the Android phone software almost a year ago in November 2007 with the goal of making it easier to surf your favourite sites when you’re on the go.
The G1 will feature a touch screen as well as a Qwerty keyboard as is now becoming standard with smart phones. It will also come with a respectable three megapixel camera, a ‘one click’ contextual search and a browser that you can zoom in on by a simple tap of the screen.
The handset will be both 3G and wi-fi enabled and for those long bus trips home, it has built-in YouTube support . There is also access to the “Android Market”, which is similar to the Apple app store, and allows you to download a range of both useful and useless applications.
T-Mobile are offering the handset for “free” on all tariffs of over £40 a month. The price is perhaps a bit hexy, but this does include unlimited web browsing, so depending on your net addiction, this could possibly be the best deal ever.

It’s a shame it only has a 3 mega pixel camera – you say it’s respectable, but in all honestly it’s one of the features I use most on my phone, and from a new phone I’d be hoping for a little more. Also does it have video capability? That’s one area where the iphone falls down in my opinion, so it’s a definite opportunity for a competitor to steal some of the market.
Laura, | think you might be right about the Android. If they are going to spend that much time and money making a phone with some great features, the least they could have done was created better camera capabilities. I think this would have set it apart from the iPhone!
it seems not bad,but I doubt it can compare with iphone
theyve just released the first google branded android, cant wait to get my hands on one!
