4G Broadband Hotspot for Apple Devices Launched by Clearwire

Apple fandom is expanding and now it includes not only the consumers, but also the companies vying to come up with products for this mega-entity. Clearwire has introduced a new version of its Spot 4G hotspot for Apple products. The company has not only shaped the product on the lines of "magic mouse", but also have prefixed the revered letter 'i' to its name. You know, just to re-affirm its allegiance to the big daddy.  Anyhow, iSpot can hook up to eight devices via WiFi and lets you share the 4G connectivity. The product is compatible with iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad.

Clearwire has claimed that the new gizmo provides rich mobile broadband experience and is able to provide an average download speed of 3 to 6 mbps. iSpot requires authentication via a password. The company has clarified that "the device is configured to filter based on MAC address which allows it to ID the Apple mobile devices.” So far, things look good with this personal hot spot, however on the downside, it is capable of transmitting only 4G connectivity. Therefore, for the time being, iSpot's appeal is going to be limited to the areas with 4G coverage.

iSpot is available via Clearwire website for $99.99 with a monthly service fee of $25 for unlimited 4G data usage. This personal hotspot would be available in stores across the US from August 10. The pricing is attractive and thanks to the spotty service provided by AT&T, iSpot actually stands a good chance to create its own niche market.

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
