Research in Motion has joined hands with AT&T for launching its new smartphone Torch 9800. The phone, with dual input mode, will be available from August 12 at the price point of $200. AT&T has offered the prospective customers to sign up for a notification, which will intimate them about the availability of the new objet d'sire. Torch 9800 claims to be the first smartphone to feature a physical keyboard along with a touch screen. it is also the first phone to be graced with the new OS 6.
The phone sports a 3.2 inch capacitive LCD touch screen with not so impressive 360×480 resolution. It also offer the facility of using track pad or QWERTY for navigation. Another impressive feature is the availability of universal search facility. You just have to enter a search term and your entire phone will be scanned for retrieving the relevant information. Torch 9800 also has the usual bells and whistles such as Bluetooth 2.1, 5 MP camera and 4 GB of built-in storage. The phone uses a little archaic 624-Mhz Marvell processor, which in the world of Ghz processors leaves a lot to be desired.
Although the phone has the same processor and screen resolution of the BlackBerry Bold, but it has certain new features too. Its Desktop Manager has been completely revamped and its Social Feeds app combines various social networking and chatting platforms. BB Torch 9800 looks and works smooth, but it would be interesting to see how it holds up itself against mighty Droids and iPhone.
