August 3rd is the date that has been pencilled into our diaries as the official release date of the HTC EVO 4G Android 2.2 update, and as this is today, all you HTC EVO 4G owners will be pleased to know that you should be receiving an OTA update of the Google OS shortly.
Yesterday, HTC were unimpressed, after a unofficial HTC EVO 4G hack was showcased for all to see, so I am pretty sure that HTC are a lot happier with the release of their official EVO 4G Android 2.2 Froyo update today.
The update is said bring all the usual features expected from the Android 2.2 update as well as a speedier interface for the 4G phone.
If you haven’t received a notification to download, then it might be worthwhile to manually check for new updates through your settings menu, in which you will be given the option to install the new update.

I thought today was suppossed to be for the moto droid? Oh well, I guess Ill keep waiting verizon. I can still see ota updates if I’m rooted but just running stock with superuser permissions, right?
I did a manual update on my Evo late last night. Then I fell asleep as it was updating, so didn’t have a chance to play with it until this morning.
The first thing I noticed is the the Dolphin HD brower loads almost instantly, where as before it would take about 10 seconds or more to load.
Other applications seem to load faster also. The only other thing I’m really interested in is the Exchange interface. Is it time to let go of my Touchdown app? I’m getting ready to see!
LOVE—–LOOOOOOVE FROYO!!! Went to a flash site that stayed black before, played perfectly and loaded quickly!!! Went to a friend with the Iphone4. Gave him the web address… Laughed as his black screen stared back at him as mine loaded perfectly!! FINALLY! A phone that is just exceeding my expectations!

According to the latest I’ve seen, Froyo > Droid will be out this week or next.
Have my Evo waiting for this update, but still havent gotten prompted for it…ran manual firmware update check, and nothing.
Am i doing something wrong?
Nevermind. I just got tired of waiting and installed a custom rom of 2.2. I’m running at 1ghz too, so I can’t complain.
