The champagne will be in full flow today at Sony HQ as they revealed its sales figures for the last 12 months and for the first time they have outsold Microsoft by 28% since they released their new Slim PS3.
Microsoft recently confirmed that they have sold an impressive 10.3 miliion consoles in its last financial year, and Sony confirmed yesterday that they had shifted 14.3 million PS3’s in the the same period. By far the most significnt lead Sony has places over Microsoft since it launched the PS3 in 2006.
Now we expect the new Slim Xbox to produce different results for the next financial years as they have seen a massive sales of their new whisper quiet console, but we won’t know this until 2011.
One thing is definitely for sure, though. Sony and Microsoft are now both locked in a desperate, hair-pulling struggle for the overall lead and neither of them will be the true winner. Truce ?
The impending releases of Kinect and Move, both of which hit in this year's Christmas quarter and both are likely to further boost sales for their respective mother hardware.
So the gap between Microsoft is certainly closing and we for one think that they will both do very well indeed from this extra long generation, with neither being able to conclusively say they are the winner.

honestly i think it is absolutely irelevant who will outsell. and most likely it will be xbox. cheap stuff always sells more.
what sells more Aston martin or skoda? of course skoda! I hope no one doubts here which car is better.. same with consoles. PS3 is an ultimate entertainment machine but to enjoy it you have to fork out a bit more cash.
