Reportedly, Research in Motion has snagged the domain name BlackPad.com for its rumored tablet. Thus, the BlackBerry maker has joined the ranks of other pad makers such as HP and Lenovo, which have christened their own tablet devices PalmPad and LePad respectively. Lenovo is planning to launch its tablet by the end of this year, whereas HP has just received an approval of its trademark application for reserving the ingenious name "PalmPad". So, looks like it's time to get a refresher course on all the puerile pad jokes.
BlackBerry has codenamed its tablet program as "Cobalt Project". The tablet is likely to feature a 1 Ghz processor with a rear and front facing camera for video conferencing. Unlike iPad, BlackPad will support the Adobe Flash. At 7 inches, it is also expected to be thinner and smaller than iPad. The first scoop about RIM tablet was leaked by the Wall Street Journal back in June. Although, RIM chose neither to confirm nor to refute the claim. If RIM is actually working on a tablet, the product is likely to be more geared towards enterprise use than iPad is. According to the rumors, the tablet will have no inbuilt 3G connectivity and is likely to be a bigger sidekick for BlackBerry.
BlackPad is expected to grace the retail store shelves by the end of this year. Guess, we just have only a couple of months left to hypothesize about its specs.
