The Amazon Vs The World E-reader wars are heating up once again and it feels as though there's new E-reading news every day. There was first the announcement that Kindle sales had tripled and Ebooks had outsold hardback books. Then Sony came back with a Google partnership and its own literary award. Now Amazon has updated the Kindle to version 3 and has targeted us in the UK with a UK version of its popular device.
As part of the new Kindle 3 device, there will be a UK device (which means we don't have to go through the chew of shipping in an 'international kindle.')
The device comes with Amazon's new favorite the 'graphite' coloured chassis (in addition to a white model.) The device is 21 percent smaller than its predecessor and 15 percent lighter which makes it much more portable and comfortable device for reading books. The device keeps the popular 6-inch, e-ink screen with the bonus of a 20 percent increase in the refresh rate.
Battery life has also improved with the Kindle now said to provide over a month of wireless-free reading and 10 days with wireless turned on.
The biggest change is price. With Amazon showing great business skills and hitting consumers were it matters; the pocket. This has proved a great success when the previous Kindle's prices were slashed and we will surely see big sales in the UK with a Wi-fi version at a competitive £109
To compliment the UK version of the Kindle, there will also be a UK e-book store, so thankfully you will no longer have to make your purchases in US dollars.
There's no new 'multimedia elements' with Amazon stating that they are focusing on a device purely for reading rather than trying to compete with all-purpose table devices like the iPad.

I think that the future of Amazon’s digital books is going to be on your phone, which is always with you. I don’t see the point of buying the Kindle now.
Reading on a phone is always going to be cumbersome, hard on the eyes, and plagued with short battery life – everything a book doesn’t have.
For the 1st time, with the 3rd generation Kindle, I can see a device with all the plus points of a paper book (except that wonderful smell), but with many, many added extras.
In this device I think the digital reader has finally come of age.
I dont quite understand why people think you can read a book comfortably on a phone, it would just be a chore. This Kindle ticks all the boxes for me and have ordered my first ever ereader.
A phone would be usefull if you need to get to a book quickly say at a book club or writing an essay, just to jog your memory but I agree for a full on reading session, Kindle (or another Ereader) seems the best option at the moment.
i want the kindle but in white dont know what to do if i get it from the us will customs get involved?
