iPhone 4, 3GS, 3G and 2G Speed Test: Which Was Faster?

Since the release of the iPhone 4, the phone has come under a lot of scrutiny for its recent antenna ‘death-grip’ issues.

Although, I sympathise with many people out there who will now be adding a rather ugly bumper to their luscious iPhone 4 to fix the problem, I must admit that this aside the iPhone 4 seems to a great piece of kit. Compare it to when the original iPhone 2G was released back in 2007, both in terms of hardware and software, it has moved on leaps and bounds.

One of the benefits to the iPhone 4 is the speed in which it launches a web page or loads up a game compared to previous iPhone models. So to put the iPhone 4 to the test Chris Pinnock and Mike Hellers decided to make a video to see exactly what the difference in speed was between all models of the iPhone.

Four Generations of the iPhone from Chris Pinnock on Vimeo.

You’ll see from the video that the iPhone 4 manages to launch Plants Vs Zombies in 8.5 seconds, which is a far cry better than the 2G which launched in 26 seconds.

However, interestingly, although the iPhone 4 came up trumps on most of the speeds test, it took longer to shut down compared to the iPhone 2G and longer to reboot compared to the 3GS.

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
