Following an unprecedented 250,000 reader votes, the final shortlist for T3's fourth annual Gadget Awards has been announced. With contributions from T3's judging panel of tech and gadget experts including Martin Stanford (Sky News), Nik Taylor (MSN), Claudine Beaumont (The Telegraph) and Patrick Goss (TechRadar.com.)
Each of the 18 categories in the shortlist contains five of the best gadgets, innovations or companies in the tech industry right now. With new categories including the App of the Year and the T3 Design Award.
2009's winners include New Media Service of the year winner, Spotify, who are hoping to pick up another award for their mobile app.
Potential award winners this year include the likes of Apple's iPad and Microsoft's Kinect for Xbox 360 as well as Sky's new 3D TV service. There's also the chance for smaller less known companies to
win, such as British-based Light Blue Optics, (designers of a virtual keyboard.)
Despite the negative headlines this year is proving to be a successful year for Apple whom have been shortlisted no less than thirteen times across ten different categories with the iPhone 4 and the iPad both up for awards.
Last year Apple lost out to HTC, who won Gadget of the Year in 2009 with its Hero smartphone. HTC will be hoping to replicate their results this year as they battle head to head with Apple in five separate categories. So who do you think deserves to win?
Jim left the shop and sat on the grass in the middle of a nearby roundabout and as is his usual reaction to any sort of situation he smoked several cigarettes. He tossed question after question and thought after thought around his mind.
She will break my heart
She is too beautiful for me
Am I even ready for a,.. 'girlfriend'
What am I going to do when she's on her break?
Picnic, but where?
What does she like to eat?
Well, who's to say she will be my girlfriend
She probably lives off things bought for her by other men
I'm probably one man out of one hundred
Has fate brought me to this shop, where she works?
Am I a fatalist?
I know what Tom would say,
'Fuck, her Jim; fuck her brains out; fuck her in the snatch and in the arse'
Maybe I think too much
She wasn't in my life
And now she is
So if it all goes wrong then nothing changes
And if it all goes, right, then everything changes
But, in a good way
It's that simple really
Walk in
Grab food
Take her to,..
Fuck it
Bring her here.
Bring her here
Eat food
And talk to her
Oh Jim she could be a horrible person
The halo effect Jim
Remember the halo effect
A-level psychology
That lesson where we watched a video
Jim sits up and throws his cigarette butt on the ground. He remembers that he is bringing her here for a picnic and the place is cluttered with miscellaneous rubbish and his own cigarette butts, so he begins to pick up the rubbish, his plucks up crisp packets and condom wrappers, cigarette filters, aluminium drinks cans, leaflets advertising this and that. Soon his hands are full and he wonders where he will dispose of the waste he has collected. He decides to stuff the litter into his trouser pockets, thus leaving him with empty hands to pick up the rest of the litter. After picking up a few more leaflets, another crisp packet and a bottle top, he finally clears up the small patch of grass in the centre of the roundabout. He walks back towards the shop and carefully empties the rubbish first from his hands and then from his pocket into a bin, making sure that he is not spotted by Sally. 'She knows I am strange but I couldn't talk my way out of this.' 'Oh what was I doing with all that rubbish, well I was trying to clean up the roundabout so we could sit and have a picnic on it.'
He stands still for a moment imagining her reaction. Her beauty folding into ugly confession her normal mind stung by the strangeness of abnormality, her knee-jerk reaction to run away from anything that doesn't make sense.
