Microsoft Guru Mary Jo tweeted yesterday that the company is planning to give every one of the 90,000 + employees around the world a free Microsoft Windows Phone 7.
This all comes after the mixed reception to the preview of the Microsoft's new Windows Phone 7 this week - Microsoft have already starting the PR work for the new OS, and they have come up with a rather novel and expensive way of spreading their new mobile gospel.
We think this could be a stroke of genius - we're firm believers that the best possible PR is by word of mouth, and if all 90,000 employees show it to their friends and family it is sure to help the new phone fly of the shelves and into people’s pockets during the winter holiday.
Afterall, my whole family was amazed and captivated by the iPhone when I got it out to show them one a few Christmas' ago. Since then they have all jumped on the Apple band-waggon. All they need now is a killer app or family game like Angry Birds to really catch the eye of smartphone users. No real details have emerged about the apps side of the game but with the success of its Xbox Live service, I’m more than convinced they will have compelling content to go with the phone.
Realistically the cost is a drop in the ocean for the mega software company – around 5 million if every phone was £50 - but they need to make sure it is the best thing since sliced bread. So when they deploy their 90,000 believers into the world, they will convert us to the Microsoft way – well that seems to be the plan.
The wheels of hype are in motion, let's just hope that it can live up to the hype and will be a compelling alternative to Apple's dominance.

Hi guys your webside is Good.
Of course what will really happen is the employees will use them, realise they are nowhere near as good as the iPhone which most of them will own and they’ll end up flooding eBay with them and they’ll sell for £10.
I’d buy one for a tenner :)
