Sony brings us 360 degree, 3D holographic image

Sony has officially created the coolest and most futuristic gadget of the year, a 3D holographic image that can be seen without glasses. We're talking a sci-fi movie style floating globe on the living room floor.

A 360-degree Autostereoscopic display allows viewers to enjoy full colour, volumetric objects from any angle and you can even interact with the 'hologram' too. The 3D bricks style game shown in the video makes the Wii look primitive.

The device is obviously only a prototype at the moment and it will be years and years and years before we see anything like this in the shops but still, that's what's exciting about gadgets, seeing what the future has in store. Whilst you're waiting, check out the video and enjoy Sony Tokyo's demonstration of the extraordinary new technology.

So what do you think? Technology like this could be the future of home entertainment. Imagine a multi-format hub; movies, music, photos, internet browsing, games all in front of your very eyes in a responsive 3D holograph.

Well perhaps I'm getting too excited, but work like this by Sony is brining us closer to the glasses-less 3D television that everyone is secretly waiting for.

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
