Amazon's Kindle is regarded as one the best eReaders around but its hefty price tag and competition from the likes of the iPad meant that it was struggling to hit its true potential.
That is until Amazon slashed the price of the device down to $189 and now the device has tripled in sales since its $259 price tag was cut.
More interesting is that books sold on the Kindle are actually outselling the hardcover books Amazon sells and for a site which specials in books sales it says a lot about the success of Kindle and the future of reading.
In the past three months, (In the US) for every 100 hardcover books sold, Amazon.com has sold 143 Kindle books and the gap is said to be getting wider.
The Kindle store now has over 630,000 books available, over 510,000 of those are $9.99 or less. Plus, Amazon has access to over 1.8 million free, out-of-copyright, pre-1923 books so despite the added features that come with an iPad, as a pure eReader, Amazon seems to hold the advantage in terms of book choice and price.
And popular authors Charlaine Harris, Stieg Larsson, Stephenie Meyer, James Patterson, and Nora Roberts have all sold over 500,000 Kindle version of their books.
With Amazon announcing a larger black frame model and possible further price cuts, the Kindle is becoming a tempting prospect for avid readers?
So how do you prefer your books: hardback, or electronic?
