Motorola has announced launching its Milestone XT720 handset in the UK. The Android based smartphone is available unlocked since the company has yet to finalize a carrier partner in the country. This gorgeous Android 2.1 equipped phone comes with 8 megapixel camera and is capable of taking 720p videos. It comes with a mechanical shutter, ostensibly to decrease the response time taken by the camera. It also features Xenon flash. Other vital stats are 3.7 inch WVGA capacitive screen with 490×854 resolution and a battery with 9 hours of talk time and 320 hours of standby capacity.
Its 550MHz processor sounds a bit archaic, but it is capable of clocking up to 720MHz speed. This drawback is likely to negatively affect the speed and performance of the phone, which is not a good sign in the ultracompetitive smartphone market. Its ROM and RAM both are capped at 512 MB. Motorola seems to be comfortable with keyboard-less phones since this phone has virtual key board instead. Milestone XT720 comes with the usual features such as WiFi and HSPA connectivity. The device also has memory card support where you can expand its memory up to 32 GB, although only 8 GB microSD card is included inbox.
The new offering from Motorola looks enticing, but still lags behind a bit in performance. The phone is, by no means, a threat to iPhone 4, but it sure can compete with the lesser mortals. Milestone XT720 has been priced between £360 and £382.
