Apple Dominates the US Smartphone Market: How Long Will They Stay on Top?

A recent survey of 4,028 US consumers by ChangeWave has created some interesting statistics to give us an insight into the smartphone market. Unsurprisingly the figures back up the idea that we have become smartphone mad with 16% of respondents saying that they’ll be buying a smartphone within the next 90 days; the biggest increase in the survey’s history.

Apple and HTC seem to be the most popular, both improving their share by over 50 percent between March and June of this year. Interest in RIM and Motorola has dropped whilst the Palm has failed to register even a single percentage point. The Droid X and BlackBerry 6 will no doubt throw the RIM and Motorola figures back up but things look grim for palm.

In terms of customer satisfaction, the stats show that in the US Apple can do no wrong with a whopping 73% of people interviewed saying they are 'very satisfied' with their Apple smartphone. I wonder if UK statistics would be so high?

RIM are surprisingly low only keeping 30% of their users happy. Strangely Palm are high up in customer satisfaction, joint third with Motorola at 34% obviously this wasn't enough to keep interest in the Palm.

With the smartphone market changing so much, how long can Apple stay at the top?

And there you have it, despite the s**t storm that bloggers, Apple haters and the Press have created over the “unusable” iPhone 4, seems like the people who ACTUALLY OWN an iPhone 4 are happy with it and the level of customer satisfaction is nearly double that of the nearest company.

Seems to me that all the time that Apple are releasing iPhones, they’ll be making phones better than others and all the time Steve is in charge, they’ll rule the roost.

  • I think it will be hard for anyone to beat them. It’s a bit like ebay, who’s going to top them?

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
