The fantastic browser-based music steaming service We7, have announced that they have teamed up with the Guardian Media Group to offer their listeners integrated news bulletins between songs.
We7 is very similar to Spotify and Last.fm, allowing users to make their own radio station playlists from a library of literally millions of tracks – We7 comes in two flavours, the first is free and will see the news bulletins and adverts in between tracks and you pay £4.99 to get a ad-free version.
The radio news addition is an optional feature, and will offer real-time news broadcasts, updated to take into account any major breaking stories.
Steve Purdham, CEO and co-founder of We7, said: “This partnership marries high quality news production and delivery with the new paradigm of on-demand music. Radio and cloud based music can learn a great deal from each other, so we are really excited about working with GMG Radio”.
Stuart Taylor, Chief Executive of GMG Radio added: “Working with We7 means that we can continue to grow our strong reputation for quality news coverage by making that content available across a variety of platforms for the benefit of the end user. We’re thrilled to be providing news for listeners in this format, it’s not only changing the offering to the consumers but shows the real evolution of the market.”
It’s a really good feature, and will be welcomed by their users, after all news is better than hearing British Gas adverts.

Any details on the rev share? Afterall Guardian news is a lot more interesting than a British Gas ad, but will it pay the rent and label fees?
