Sony Worldwide Studio boss Shuhei Yoshida has let it slip that the electronics giant is already working on future games platforms – and has confirmed that they aim to make them more developer-friendly.
“Yes, we are undergoing many activities that we haven’t yet been talking about in public,” Yoshida toldDevelop. “Some future platform-related activities.”
According to reports the first-party studios have been consulted on the hardware developments to ensure the next Playstation doesn’t suffer from complex and unusual design that the PS3 is known for.
“When Ken Kutaragi moved on and Kaz Harai became the president of SCE, the first thing Kaz said was, ‘get Worldwide Studios in on hardware development,'” he said.
“So he wanted developers in meetings at the very beginning of concepting new hardware, and he demanded SCE people talk to us.”
So Sony are already planning and developing their next console – this flies in the face of the idea that this generation could last ten years.
