If you're already getting bored of the latest technology like touchpad screens, control-less gaming and 3D TV and you want a real glimpse of the future, then this is some great news for you.
Over in Shanghai at the World Expo 2010, Canon (who seem to have developed a time machine they are not telling us about) have been showing off the camera of 2030. The World Expo is a chance for companies to share their visions of the future but often these are improvements/changes to current technology. This year Canon are using concepts never seen before.
The video below from Gizmag shows what Canon has imagined for the future of photography. And for those who don't care about gadgets twenty years down the line, then you can have a look at the Panasonic Life Wall that was set up for the demonstration; three 152-inch plasma touch screens (4096 x 2160 pixels.)
The idea behind the concept camera is that video and still imagery is combined, with every single thing in every single frame in focus. The camera will be video-only capture as Canon argues you won’t need to shoot stills when its video is capable of keeping everything in focus at all times, you’ll just pick out your favourite stills from the movie reel.
It will be able to switch between mega-zooms and macro-modes with the same lens and it of course it will have face recognition (probably a standard feature by then.)
Obviously Cannon could not yet offer detailed specs. But it is dreaming of unparalleled zooms and megapixels that are currently unimaginable, maybe even gigapixels or terrapixels.
Cannon is pretty confident about its plans so far, and it's got two decades to realise them so maybe we'll be reviewing it twenty years. So, see you then.
