News international will begin charging for access to The Times and Sunday Time websites from Friday at a cost of £1 per day and £2 for a week’s subscription.
The media world is waiting with baited breath to see whether this new model will be the future for digital publishing.
The effect of the introduction of “paywall” will be keenly watched by other media groups. Executives have already acknowledged they expect to lose some “passing traffic”.
An introductory offer will be in place for users who take the plunge and will be given access to both for a £1 fee for the first 30 days.
Rebekah Brooks, the chief executive of News International, said: “We have been very pleased with the response from readers since the launch of the new websites for The Times and The Sunday Times in May.
“We believe the new sites offer real value and we look forward to continuing to invest and innovate for readers.”
So News International are taking real gamble with the Paywall system – will you be subscribing to the new service? And how much would you pay to read Gaj-it.com – not that we would ever considering charging for this great service.
