Sony Vaio Laptop Overheating Problem? Sony Recall Over 500,000 Vaio Notebooks

Sony Vaio C and Vaio F class notebooks released this January have been reported to have overheating problems. As a result it has been reported that Sony are in the process of recalling approximately 500,000 Vaio laptops due to this issue.

The reason for this overheating is due to defective heat monitoring chips found in the Vaio C and F class notebooks, which has resulted in the products overheating and in some cases distorting their shape.

So if you own a Sony Vaio C or F laptop and are experiencing these problems then Sony are offering a fix to the problem by downloading a new firmware update on your notebooks or offering users to bring their laptops in for service.

At the moment only 40 customer complaints have been made about the product, however do you own a Sony Vaio laptop and experiencing the same problems? Let us know your woes below…

My Vaio just keeps shutting down. Loud fan noise, very hot, cost 900 pound less than 2 years ago. Im not happy with this product at the moment. I hope Sony can fix it.

  • I’ve got a Vaio C serie and I’m very disappointed. It keeps shutting down due to overheating effect and the fan noise is really annoying… I bought it from USA (I live in Angola) and I don’t know how to fix the problem… Awful!

My 18 months old Vaio c series has problems as above the fan which was always very loud stopped working and the machine got got very hot and started switching off. Called Sony – sent back for repair. They fixed the fan – so far so good. But then called to say to test the machine properly they need to wipe the hard drive. I reluctantly agreed. They then call to say the machine is still switching off and the problem is with the motherboard – they will fix at cost of £314. Am furious, except for getting hot and switching off as a result the machine was working perfectly. Am still fighting my case to get them to fix this FOC but to no avail so far….

  • I have Sony Vaio model# PCG-6S2L is very noise and overheating. how do I resolve these issues?

Looks like we have joined the long list of owners of a defective Vaio. Paid £700.00 for a dud nearly 18 months ago. Frequently cutting out, overheating, noisy etc. A Wonderfully marketed but poor product. And no help from the company.

I had my Sony Vaio VPCF136FM. The fan noise is very annoying and as soon as I turn the power on the fan kicks and won’t stop even if it’s not being used. The fan is blowing very hot air that I am scared one day my laptop will burn. Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a vaio VPCF136FM also. I have had it for almost 1 year and it has just started to overheat. The fans run constantly at a high rpm..I can no longer play games on it and the temps run on idle between 74-78c

  • I have the same problem, the fan is so noisy it makes it almost impossible to watch a film on the computer anymore!! Thankfully it hasn’t started shutting down yet. (Touch Wood) I run it on power saver mode but usually only on AV power without the battery in. The most annoying thing is the noise, I have had the laptop just over a year but my last vaio never did this – how do we download the new firmware update?!

I ripped my vaio apart and cleaned out the fan really well. This seems to have helped. It doesn’t get really hot anymore and runs much quieter. It will still randomly shut off though if I am playing a game. I am a tech and I will not buy a vaio again…very disappointed with it’s performance…as it is marketed as a gaming machine.

  • My laptop which i have had for two years has been doing this since day one and is now happening all of the time and is very annoying. It makes me wish i would have went with a different company like asus or acer

  • I bought a sony vaio VPCF136FM laptop year ago, and because it was a core i7 that was suposed to be one of the most faster machine at that time, but to bring it near of the what I was looking, I had to disable a lot of softwares from the genuine, to stay easier to the processor and it got better in its speed. But now what really are bring me head aches is the temperature, dont know what happens, but sometime the quadcore group goes to 80C. And fan works as a crazy one. If Sony recognize there is a factory problem, I d like to get it fixed before it gets worse. Peculiarity, I bought this laptop on Bethlehem-PA USA, and I am living on Brazil, but We know Sony as a Company with a very strength world power and I believe they can fix this issue wherever their Customers are. If you Mr. web site sponsor, could light me the way, it would be great and I will be very grateful for your attention… Guess I have to mention here, that my HD still having 75% at least of empty space… thanks once more…
