Google Android 3.0 Gingerbread Release Date Expected End of 2010

Just a month back, Google had announced the release of Android 2.2 OS aka FroYo. But somehow they thought a Gingerbread would do fine with FroYo (short for Frozen Yogurt). Before you start thinking that omnipresent Google has ventured out in to bakery business, let me correct you. Gingerbread is the code name for the upcoming Android 3.0 OS, which is scheduled to be released some time during October this year.

According to Mobile-Review.com, Gingerbread equipped handsets are expected to start shipping in November or December. Its minimum hardware requirements have been set at 1 GHZ CPU and minimum 3.5" display. It would also need 512 MB of RAM. For displays of 4" or above, the OS will provide sweet 1280X760 resolution. It is also rumoured that the UX provided by this OS will be much better than current UIs.

One of the smartphone which is headed to include the Android 3.0 is the HTC Vision. The minimum specifications would exclude Motorola Droid from getting the new OS but Nexus does fulfill the criterion. It would be interesting to see how this OS fragmentation game pans out for Google. So, it would seems like Google is doing great with OS upgrades, although I would like them to upgrade their culinary quotient as well. Next time, please serve us something gourmet.
