As covered by Gaj-it earlier, the release of the new iPhone 4 has caused huge queues outside Apple's UK stores. Elsewhere in the World, things are no different. With more than 600,000 iPhone pre-orders placed on the first day of availability iPhone 4 is the most successful Apple product launch of all time (which doesn't seem to bode well for companies like Motorola and Palm who are desperate to knock Apple of its smart-phone pedestal.)
If you're sick of hearing about the iPhone then you will have to wait a little while for the release of the Droid X which Motorola will be eager to get out to frighten Steve Jobs. Here's a Verizon commercial to get you excited (they must be confident as the advert says nothing at all about the phone.)

UK
Here in the UK there is word of an iPhone shortage. O2 has limited its sales to existing customers only and have said that the “iPhone stock will be extremely limited in the UK at launch and not everybody who wants one will be able to get one straight away”.
USA
At the Apple store in 5th Avenue, New York , Conan O' Brien made an appearance and
places in the queue which were close to the store were apparently being sold for thousands of Dollars.
At the Staten Island store, NY, Police were called to calm the over-excited crowd.
Japan
Always adding insane costumes wherever they can, in Japan, Apple fans dressed as iPhones show off their ,erm.. IPhones.
Russia
President Medvedev was the first Russian to get an iPhone (off Steve himself.)
(The rest of) Europe
Jeremy Copp, Vice President of Mobile-Europe.co.uk said that "to date, the iPhone has had a disproportionate impact on the European mobile market considering its relatively modest installed base of around 10 million; he added that the Droids are coming and current demand for the iPhone 4 implies a titanic battle between Apple and Google is imminent."
Well Jeremy may be right, but we’ll have to wait and see.

I don’t think this iphone 4 will do as good as it’s predecessors because I can’t see people just getting rid of their perfectly good iphones just to get the new one and pay a few hundred pounds just to get the same phone with a few addded features. But then sayig this, we are living in a consumer society and if the recession doesn’t stop us then what will?
