Google Street View Captures Passwords and Email Addresses: Naughty Google?

Although we love Google Street View for it being a fantastic resource to help us locate places of interest, it would appear that it has come under a lot of scrutiny for collecting personal data when performing Street View duties.

Recently Google admitted that Google Street View were sniffing data from WiFi networks, which resulted in the search engine giant being investigated. Since then it would appear that the French National Commission on Computing and Liberty (CNIL) have announced the results of its investigations, revealing that the captured fragments included email passwords and extracted portions of email messages.

With the results showing that Google were able to grab email passwords, using their Street View technology, this certainly doesn’t fill us with a whole lot of confidence that we can even trust Google. What do you think of Google’s antics? Let us know your thoughts below…

    Hello,

I greatly admire Google … but … THEY REALLY MUST STOP ‘FARMIMG’ PERSONAL DETAILS.

There’s no excuse for it … they’ve already been ‘bitten’ by it in Germany. Are ‘Googleites’ so dim that they cannot understand where the lines should be drawn ?

Three strikes and you’re out, Google … and the clock is ticking !! … an I’m starting to investigate Bing !!!

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
