UK developer Rare, who have been tasked to create launch title Kinect Sports for Microsoft’s new Kinect, have come out on the defensive and said that they feel the lag is not a problem with Kinect.
Rare ‘s Nick Burton, exec producer said that “Lag is not an issue” and added “as with any prototype stuff, of course it was in the past and that’s to be expected.”
He added: “Where we’re at now, not at all. Yes, we’ve done a lot work to make sure it wasn’t a problem, but when you’ve got something that’s copying what you’re doing you can’t have a lot of lag.”
These comments come after many people had notice a slight lag from when you move and when your character moves. It has been suggested that Kinect will have an input lag of 150ms, which doesn’t sound like a lot – but once you add your TV’s lag into it may become a problem.
Kinect Sports looks like a important game for Kinect, as Wii sports was to the Wii, but Nick Burton reckoned Kinect Sports was a far more advanced than Wii sports.
“There’s so much more data, so much more fidelity, so many more things you can do,” he said. “Kinect’s not just about tracking – there’s voice recognition, identity, so many things. It’s more than the sum of its parts. I’ve been involved for a couple of years and even now we’re like, “Wow, there’s all these things we could do!”
So what you think of the slight lag in Kinect ? Do you think it’s a game changer? Have your say below….

Well at least the Wii don’t have the lag. Lag is very important in gaming just like subtitles is to a movie.
