HTC EVO 4G Post-Mortem: Let’s Get Nitty Gritty!

American Gadgeteers iFixit have done a postmortem on the hotly anticipated HTC EVO 4G after they were given one at the recent Google I/O event – The iFixit  team managed to sneak it home and perform an autopsy to gain some valuable insights.

Apparently iFixit say that the “Evo 4G was an easy phone to open” in which just six screws needed removing to gain access to its insides.

According to the iFixit team they found that the glass was very simple to replace as was the battery. More interesting was the fact that the new phone has a larger battery than the current iPhone.

The team found that the new phone has a liquid damage indicator on the battery’s top edge – so if you drop your phone in water – HTC will be able to tell whether your telling the truth.

The dual LED flash assembly consists of no more than two LED’s soldered to a small interconnect board.

Other notable insights are that the forward facing 1.3 Megapixel camera lifts right out of its enclosure in the top portion of the Evo 4G.

No news on when we will get the HTC Evo 4G in the UK but it is to be released in the US this Friday priced at $199.

What do you think of the HTC Evo and its specs?  Does it make you want to buy the phone over the rumoured iPhone 4G?  Leave us a comment and let us know what you think…

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
