If you live in London then you’re in for a treat as London’s Mayor, Boris Johnson has promised to deliver city wide WiFi to London before the 2012 Olympics.
His announcement came when speaking at the Google Zeitgeist event, in which he pledged that London will will be the technological centre of the world.
With only two years remaining before the 2012 Olympics, it will definitely be interesting to see whether Boris will be able to meet the demands and achieve what he calls ‘Wireless London’.
The service will not be free and you will have to pay to use it but details of this haven’t been annouced yet. 22 London boroughs have already signed on to the plan. The City of London already does something similar.
Also, details of the speed of the WiFi connection is also a little sketchy. Nonetheless, it is great to see that London is making the first steps in the UK to build a wireless city. Let’s hope that other big cities in the UK can also follow suit.
What do you think of the ‘Wireless London’ idea? Would you be willing to pay for the service once it is complete? Leave us a comment and let us know what you think…
