iTunes 8: leaked features. Worth the wait?

The guys over at Electricpig have grunted about rumours of the latest iTunes features on their site. Fingers everywhere are crossed for the long-awaited iTunes 8 to be released next week, but what’s going to make it worth the upgrade?

Well, according to Digg founder Kevin Rose, iTunes 8 will include “Genius”, a new feature that will create intelligent playlists from songs in your library that fall under a similar umbrella. The Genius sidebar, will further recommend music from the iTunes Store that are not in your library, which will be great for expanding your repertoire of beats.

The latest iTunes also gives you the option to visually browse albums and artists, presenting cover art in Grid View, which builds on Apple's design-loving cover flow technology. For those of you who like squiggly lines, here will also be a new music visualiser which is described as “stunning”.

The last tasty morsel provided is that TV shows will be able to be downloaded in HD quality from the iTunes store.

Without doubt iTunes 8 sounds exciting, but until it’s grand unveiling, we can only keep the rumour mill churning.

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
