A few months ago Nintendo launched their larger version of Nintendo DSi in Japan, however it would now appear that lucky Nintendo fans in the UK will also be able to buy the Nintendo DSi XL, when it is officially launched on the 5th of March.
The Nintendo DSi XL will offer two 4.3-inch screens, which is over 90% bigger than the screen on the Nintendo DS Lite and also comes with a larger pen-like stylus which aims to offer great control comfort when using it.
Nintendo is hoping that the DSi XL will be aimed at the more older casual gaming audience which may encounter viewing problems when using its smaller brother the Nintendo DSi Lite. The new handheld device will launch in wine red and dark brown, with what Nintendo says has, “a glossy sheen on top and matt finish on the underside that provides excellent grip when resting on a table or other surface during gameplay”. It will arrive pre-loaded with “Dr Kawashima’s: Little Bit of Brain Training: Arts Edition” and “Dictionary 6 in 1 with Camera Function”.
So what will be the pricing for the Nintendo DSi XL? Well Nintendo told the Telegraph that although the pricing has not yet been confirmed on the product, they have been told that it will be at a ‘slight premium’ compared to what they sell it to retailers at. At the moment it is priced at 20,000 Yen which is equivalent to about £140, but industry experts believe that it will cost a little higher than that.
So do we think the Nintendo DSi XL will be just as big of a hit as the its smaller version, the Nintendo DS Lite? Well, as Nintendo have listened to research from their older consumers about the DS Lite been very small, it is the hope by Nintendo that it will appeal to this market, however personally the DSi Lite will always be the winner in my eyes for offering a pocket friendly option that you can take anywhere with you.
What do you think? Do you think the Nintendo DSi XL will have just the same appeal as the DS Lite? Leave a comment and let us know what you think?
