Top 10 PS3 Games – Christmas 2009

00The top Christmas games for the PS3. These choices are based on the chart positions of PS3 games as of the week commencing Monday 7th December 2009. Although they may rise and fall I doubt there’ll be much in the way of change – although feel free to pitch in your recommendations in the comments!

01 – Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

Set to break video games sales records, Call of Duty : Modern Warfare 2 is back, pitting Russia against America and the allied nations, who’ve created elite task force 141 to deal with the problem. A first person shooter, incorporating a solo campaign, plus multi player Special Ops mode as well as online play. If you enjoy killing things and haven’t got bored of the war games yet (or by the sounds of it, even if you have!) then you’ll love this one.

12 – Assassin’s Creed 2

Following on from the massive success of its predecessor, Assassins Creed 2 picks up where the last one left off, this time allow you to romp open world style through 15th century renaissance Italy. A lot of the complaints from the first game have been addressed, especially the fluidity of movement. Visually it’s spectacular and although people have complained the plot is a little convoluted, when it’s looks so pretty and plays so well who cares?

23 – FIFA 10

Football games aren’t going away, and unfortunately it’s a genre I know nothing about, what with being in possession of ovaries. It includes both the usual modes, career and manager. The game play is said to have been much improved meaning that you can more sophisticatedly control the ball and make better use of your pitch space. But let face it- you’re either going to be a Fifa fan, or a Pro Evo fan, and nothing I can say will convince you to go for one over the other!

34 – Need for Speed: Shift

NFS : Shift tries to recreate a truly realistic experience, including a three-dimensional HUD that mimics driver head movement, inertia and G-forces. Plus, when you crash (and you will crash) the video and audio effects combine to disorientate the player. The enhanced AI also makes it feel like you’re driving against real people, who adapt to your skill level.

45 – Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

Nathan Drake returns once more, treasure hunting his way around the mystery of Marco Polo's last voyage. In addition to the platform elements of the last game, you now have added stealth additions and enemies with AI so state of the art they appear to think just like you. There's also a brand new co-op mode, plus competitive multiplayer, as well as awesome graphics.

56 – Batman: Arkham Asylum

Another of my personal 2009 wants, Batman: Arkham Asylum sees you (hopefully) foiling the Joker's take over of the infamous Gotham mad house. There's a seriously impressive looking stealth mode, plus redesigns of the best Batman villains (often voice by their original cartoon series artists!). You also get to customise your own equipment, meaning a Batman game that is the most immersive ever.

67 – WWE Smackdown Vs Raw 2010

Create not only your Superstar wrestler (which you can then share online) but the entire story line. And you can design alternate costumes too, as well as write the scripts and choose the camera angles. Oh wait, sorry you’re probably wanting to know about the wrestling – the popular story-based mode returns with key updates and new storylines, including a first-ever Divas storyline as well as the Create-A-Superstar storyline.

78 – Pro Evolution Soccer 2010

Another favourite of football gamers, Pro Evo is back. New additions this time include enhanced realism, players with special attributes, instant in-match tactic adjustment, and the Master League now incorporates both the Champions League and the Europa League for a whole season's worth of games. I really hope that made sense…

89 – Tekken 6

Are there really only six Tekken games? With this one, you can choose from 40 fighters, including 6 completely new ones, as well as creating and customising your own. Online Vs battles, offline mode, and destructible environments means you're not likely to get bored of this quickly. Oh, and it's now in HD so those graphics look even more bloody! (Although you need to install it to hard drive to make the best of this apparently).

910 – Lego Indiana Jones 2: The Adventure Continues

I love the Lego games. Anyone can pick up and play them, and they're just good easy fun (although not too easy- sometimes the puzzles are incredibly annoying too!). This version is essential the original Lego Indy, but with extra levels and the addition of a whole new story based on The Crystal Skull. Plus you can now create your own levels too! Best played in Co-op.

  • Gotta say, am loving Assassin’s Creed 2(you missed the apostrophe!). Best sandbox game of the year, no doubt.

  • Lol – noted and added :)

  • NFS Shift is crap compared to the older ones.

  • I enjoyed reading your interesting yet very informative insights. I am looking forward to reading more of your most recent articles and blogs. :D -10top

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
