Swiss Army Knife, but higher tech!

l_swiss_army_knife_swissflash_laser_1gbAs I look in front of me now, I see my beloved tool kit. No it isn’t pink. Some of the contents are, but that’s beside the point. It’s a proper tool kit with everything you need (except on of those screw drivers that light up when in contact with a live current and an electric drill- anyone fancy buying me a Christmas present?!). Sometimes though, you don’t want to carry round a whole huge tool kit, which is why multitools are a must for the modern man or woman.

Swiss Army Knives have been around for years. They’re the corner stone of the multitool house, the Granddaddy of the family you may say. But like Granddad, they’re a little old fashioned. Until you look at the SwissFlash Laser 1GB that is.

Nestled amongst a slightly cut down range of pull out sharp things (who really needed the tool to get stones out of horses’ hooves anyway?) are a laser pointer, a mini ball point pen, and a 1GB memory stick. Then you get the standard knife blade, nail file/ screwdriver, and scissors. No Phillips head screwdriver which would be useful, and you don’t get the saw blade, but lets face it, you only really bought it for the knife and the (missing) tooth pick anyway.

1GB of storage isn’t really much but if you’re in the line of work where you do genuinely need a multitool as part of your daily life then are you going to need much more portable storage? You’d just have to get very good at identifying what you need on it and when, and swop and change the data as needed.

Or alternatively you could just buy the 9 inch long Wenger Swiss Army Knife which has, well, everything. Except a memory stick…

  • A USB stick that is most probably illegal to carry?

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
