Star Theatre Planetarium- better that those sticky glow in the dark stars

planetariumDid you have the plastic glow in the dark stars you could get as a kid which you stuck to your ceiling? I used to know a lad who had all the constellations picked out above his bed (his parents were that type of people). I had to make do with, well, sticking my head out of the window and hoping there wasn’t any light pollution.

But, should you have a spare £120 laying around then you can beat both of these ideas with the Star Theatre Planetarium. Using the same lenses as a real planetarium (you know- one of those huge ones you can walk in) this flings 10,000 stars ceilingwards and means you can lay back and star gaze to your hearts content. Special discs let you depict real constellations and mimic celestial movements in both the north and south hemispheres. And just add that extra bit of coolness, you can also programme it so that a shooting star flies across your vision at certain intervals.

From the write ups it gets it sounds like the Star Theatre Planetarium is the closest thing to actually being in space without all the long and expensive astronaut training. Well, except for the planets. And the coldness (except in my flat). And the aliens.

Actually maybe it’s just like laying in bed looking at very powerfully projected stars. But I can think of worse ways to fall asleep can’t you?

  • wow, seem you bring a whole galaxy to your place. So great. I love it.

  • You got cheaper ones lying around now. I think the price tells you how good this one must be.

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
