80 Dell Laptop and PC Models Now Come With Windows 7

Dell Laptops with Windows 7Although we all knew it would happen, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) like Dell haven’t said much about how they will use Windows 7, I guess because it wasn’t offically out yet, but now that Windows 7 has been released OEMs are starting to move all their products over to the new version of Windows. Dell has announced that they now have 80 models of computer from the 10-inch Inspiron Mini 10 netbook to the ultra-powerful Dell Precision T7500 workstation that ship with Microsoft Windows 7 pre-installed.

Since Dell is such a large PC manufacturer they worked closely with Microsoft during the development of Windows 7. Dell did lots of testing of Windows 7 on their own hardware and they reckon that Windows 7 has outstanding performance and increased productivity.

"The close collaboration between Dell and Microsoft on Windows 7 has resulted in an innovative new wave of Dell PCs and services," said Tami Reller, corporate vice president and chief financial officer of Windows and Windows Live at Microsoft. "Customers will benefit from a richer computing experience at work, at home and in between."

For those interested in the performance gains of Windows 7, especially in gaming, Dell are saying that there is a nearly 10 per cent increase in some in-game benchmarks and nearly 20 per cent quicker boot times when compared to Windows Vista on an identically configured system. Also for gamers Windows 7 supports DirectX 11 and naturally Dell are recommending their Alienware Area-51 desktops for that real opponent-crushing gaming experience.

Dell also has a convertible 12.1-inch tablet which utilises the new multi-touch gesture support found in Windows 7. The Dell Latitude XT2 enables natural gestures like a pinch or tap for scrolling, panning, rotating, zooming and more.

"We're ready for Windows 7 and our customers are ready for Windows 7. Business customers can experience significant enhancements including faster performance for better productivity, a higher level of security and advanced application compatibility," said Steve Lalla, vice president and general manager of Dell's Commercial Client Product Group. "From the Latitude 2100 education netbook to the Dell Precision T7500 ultra-powerful workstation, we have tested our line of commercial systems for thousands of hours on Windows 7 to ensure the best possible experience. We are also addressing the needs of IT with a portfolio of services to help customers migrate as efficiently and pain-free as possible."
