I’m just going to be a fan girl for a minute. I look to my left and there’s my TV, with my XBox 360 all plugged in. Stacked around it are:
Two controllers
Two microphones
A Guitar Hero 2 guitar (I’ve never been able to afford the rest)
A headset
Three assorted games, plus more on a shelf to my right.
The only thing not there is my hard drive (it’s currently in my bag since I took it to the boyfriends so we could finish ‘Resident Evil 5’. That and ‘Mini Ninjas’ which is a brilliant game, highly recommended!) Anyway, even without those, my gaming centre is a mess. Luckily my cables are hidden at least, although only through the combined power of hope and cable ties.
I feel I’m therefore the perfect person for one of these XBox Generation Gaming Towers. Also available for your Wii (and lets face it, probably usable for your PS3 too) it’s a free standing tower which keeps all your things in one place. There’s enough shelf room to fit sixteen games (which is probably not enough for most gamers, but for the casual gamer should suffice). The base has a dedicated transformer area (so no more tripping over an ugly grey brick) as well as the stand for the actual console itself. The top has a tray for up to four controllers, and there’s even a clip on the side for the guitar. At 36.5″ its not overly big either (remember the .5″- size matters guys).
A couple of flaws. Multiple guitars aren’t catered for, and I dread to think where you’re meant to hang the drum kit. Also it could be pointed out that for the $140 it should cost (although they are on sale at $59.99) you could buy a rather nice bookcase, drill a hole in the back to put the wires through thus hiding them behind the structure, and end up with something you can keep plenty more games on as well as those paper things they have in museums now. Books I think they were called.
But then again, this is the coolest gadgets section, and it’s gets away with being pointless by looking really pretty. Plus in the case of the wii one, we all know that stressed mothers will buy any accessory just to get the kids to shut up.
