The Window Phone- raining on your texts

I’ll preface this by pointing out straight away that this is a concept gadget. Which is a shame because I covert it like covertous people covert covertable things.

Similar in style to the new LG GC900 Crystal, which features a clear keypad and handwriting recognition, the Window Phone goes a step further. Should it ever become a reality designer Seunghan Song envisions the totally clear body of the phone (not just a transparent keypad, a fully transparent phone. Which makes you wonder where he envisions the stuff that makes it work hiding) adapting to the weather outside. So when it rains, the display would look like this-

Which as far as visual effects on phones go is even better than those hologram screen protectors you used to get for the Nokia 3310 back when I was a kid and mobiles were roughly the size and shape of bricks.

Just as interesting (and again, similar to the LG Crystal) Blowing onto the phone would activate hand writing mode. Except this would take it a step further and seemingly do away with the entire concept of keys, preferring instead to rely on you writing the number you want to dial. Looking at the images of text messaging you can also do cute stuff like draw little hearts on the end (its rapidly turning into teenage girl facebook status mode now…).

How I wish this wasn’t a concept gadget. Ok, so you’d look a bit daft initially walking round with what looks like a piece of plexiglass in your pocket. Until you lit it up as a phone at which point you’d assuredly receive auto coolness points. I can’t really see it ever been made, as I can’t see you being able to totally hide all the inner chips and wires and whatnot in a truly aesthetically pleasing way, but it’s nice to imagine these things. And if anyone can tell me for sure that it would be possible, then I’ll start saving up now…

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
