Official Wikipedia App for iPhone Launched

If your team got whopped at your last pub trivia night, here’s an app that will be handy to keep under the table. The Wikimedia Foundation has announced the release of the official Wikipedia application for the iPhone, and has made it available for the very reasonable price of free.Wikipedia

While anyone can currently access Wikipedia on their phone’s browser, the new app will make it easier for you to be able to read that Gangtok is the capital and the largest town in the Indian state of Sikkim, by displaying the article in a special version specially for the iPhone.

Moving on to what the Wiki-App doesn’t do, it won’t let you edit the site nor will you be able to save content offline or perform a search within a page.

Wikimedia has stated that it kept the app’s functionality basic to ensure that it is fast and easy to use instead of loading it with options that most users won’t really take advantage of.

The new app will, however, allow you to view your search history on the site. Well you do get what you pay for.

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
