The iPod is well recorded as doing everything under the sun short of walking the dog and taking out the bins, especially if your iPod happens to be built into your iPhone, doubly so if you have the iPhone 3GS with the built in voice control.
Voice control is something that would be especially handy on the iPod, particularly if you’re like me and have a habit of scrolling far too quickly and passing the song you want three times before your brain tells you finger to stop in the right place. So I believe I’m the type of person the Aitalk is designed for!
Made by Aibelive (not Apple, which could cause concern for some, and heart attacks for the fanboys) this little gadget will clip into the charging point for the iPod, allowing you to control your music choices through the power of speech. It lets you search by song, artist or album, and apparently doesn’t require time to learn what you’re saying first, and can working in seventeen different languages. It does only claim to be accurate 90% of the time though, so you’ll probably have to be careful to enunciate to avoid inadvertently revealing that you’re iPod contains Britney Spears.
Not only can you song search, you can also control your iPod to play, repeate, skip and so on. There’re set ways to say what you want it to do (either ‘control’ then action required; ‘play’ then all songs/ certain song/ certain artist etc; or ‘search’ then artist/ song etc).
Unfortunately there’s no word on a release date, and I’m not sure how likely it is to hit England at all. The retail price in America is going to be about $85 (just over £50). A lot to pay just for hands free control, but if you do often use your iPod when your hands are restricted it could be useful.
I beat my overscrolling very easily by the way- I bought myself a Zune instead…
