While everyone else seems to be taking the sleek, no-edge touchscreen path, Sony Ericsson have stood up and said ‘no’ to phones emulating a flat kind of sphere. Instead, the handset manufacturer has gone more angular than Twiggy with its latest handset dubbed Jalou which is French for jealous (like you will be if you buy this and see that your best friend has an iPhone 3G S).
Primarily a fashion phone, Jalou is aimed at those who better know Autumn as the “chunky-knitwear season”. SE has even gone so far as to critique what fashionistas will be looking for in a phone over the next 12 months: "structured forms, intricate corners, hidden depths and jewel accents".
For those who care about substance, under the glam shine you get a rather standard a 3.2-megapixel camera with video recorder, MP3 player, FM radio and a built in browser. There is even a pedometer so that you can easily calculate walking off all of the calories in your luncheon salad.
It comes with 3G connectivity, but no word on wi-fi, though with the market Sony Ericsson are aiming at, we’re not sure buyers are going to care.
Every girl knows that size matters, and the Jalou is only 73mm long (shorter than the average lipstick) and 84g light, so won’t add a significant amount to Victoria Beckham’s scales at her next weigh in, should she need to call Katie Holmes for moral support.
At the touch of a button, the handset's 2 inch display can even be turned into a mirror, which is very much a unique feature of this handset.
Jalou will come in "Deep Amethyst", "Aquamarine Blue" and "Onyx Black" and will hit the high street in time for Christmas this year.
